Steamboat Springs Real Estate Report

So much to be thankful for: the ski area is open, a wonderful holiday meal with my family, strong growth in the Steamboat real estate market and more importantly, pending and home sales have settled into a predictable pattern.

Local Steamboat Springs Market

October proved to be another great month for Routt County real estate transactions with $75.1M in gross sales and 131 transactions.  In part, this was due to a high number of upper end sales; 11 transactions over $1M including an $11M ranch sale.  Even without the $11M sale, this was the best gross volume October we have seen since 2007.

Compared to October 2013, total gross volume was up +36.94% and transactions were also up +1.55%. Year-to-date gross dollar volume is up +14.32% and number of transactions are up +7.79% for the year.

Direct Flights to Steamboat Springs From Nearly Every Major US Hub

For being such a small town, Steamboat Springs does a good job of securing direct seasonal flights to and from our local airport (Steamboat/Hayden Airport – HDN). In fact, our resort economy depends on it.

Whether you live outside of the state of Colorado and are anxious to experience our vast champagne powder for yourself or you are lucky enough to call the Yampa Valley home and are hoping for visits from the grandchildren over the holidays, the newly expanded nonstop air service should assist in making your dreams come true.

Steamboat Ski Resort’s Opening Day Tradition

We are one week away from the official opening of our ski season here in Steamboat Springs! Since 1991 the Steamboat Ski & Resort has so generously supported the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club by giving its opening day, also known as “Scholarship Day“, revenues to the local Club. Since 1991/92, the Ski Resort’s Scholarship Day has raised nearly $850,000 for the Winter Sports Club. Pretty impressive, don’t you think? Tickets will be between $20 – $30 dollars. They will determine that soon. Depends on snow conditions and how many lifts will be open.

It’s Not a Mountain Home Without a Fireplace

Beautiful Fireplaces in Steamboat Homes

After a much appreciated extended fall here in the Yampa Valley, Old Man Winter has finally set in. Fallen snow seems to be here for the duration as does low temperatures. It makes me want to curl up in front of the fire.

I see some beautiful fireplaces in homes for sale here in Steamboat Springs. Like this dry stack stone gas fireplace. Nearly every mountain home has a fireplace and nearly every buyer wants one. Here is a small sampling of great fireplaces found in homes around Steamboat.

Most fireplaces within Steamboat city limits run on natural gas. They burn clean and are energy efficient. Here is a classic clean-lined fireplace with wood mantel. I can already see the stockings hung with care here.

Most Affordable Cultural Music in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs may be a bit remote, located in Colorado’s NW region just west of the Continental Divide, but cultural opportunities in the quaint mountain town are not void. In fact, Smithsonian.com recently named Steamboat its #4 Best Small Town for its wide offering of music. From the highly acclaimed Strings Music Pavilion, hosting international phenoms and award winning bands, to a variety of music festivals and free concert series, Steamboat provides a great number of quality music concerts per capita.

Friends and Family Series at the Chief Theater

A new music series that I am excited about and is completely affordable is the Friends and Family Series at the Chief Theater. While I love the Strings Music Pavilion, its ticket prices are sometimes cost prohibitive. This new classical music series at the Chief Theater costs only $20 online or $25 at the door for adults and only $5 for students. Affordable, right?
