Camp Robbers in Steamboat Springs, CO

No, not those kind of robbers, we just don’t have a lot of them here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I’m talking about Camp Robbers. The kind of Camp Robbers that you meet on the chairlift on Steamboat Springs Ski Area.

Camp Robbers – they are birds we know and love in the Rocky Mountains. They are a fearless and friendly bird that will come right into your camp and rob you of your food; hence the name, Camp Robbers. They are also known as Gray Jays or Perisoreus canadensis.

These omnivores eat seeds, berries, insects, small rodents, brownies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and french fries. They are quite busy in the summer caching their food by creating pellets using their sticky saliva to paste it into small crevices amongst the trees. They will eat these hidden meals during the winter months when brownies are not abundant.

Cross-Country Skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Another Magical Day Skiing on Rabbit Ears Pass

It’s hard to believe but Alpine Skiing is not the only winter sport in Steamboat Springs!

The way I view back-country skiing is  it is basically getting my exercise while taking a hike in the woods with a few moments of exhilaration (or fear) as I turn in the undisturbed powder. The beauty and peace of the Colorado Mountains just can’t be beat.

Rabbit Ears Pass is one of my favorite haunts. It’s a 20 minute drive from Steamboat Springs to most of the trails which are frequented by skiers and folks on snow shoes. The National Geographic Trails Illustrated map #118 for Steamboat Springs Rabbit Ears has the cross-country trails clearly marked. You can find these maps at numerous shops in town including the Ski Haus.

Hazie’s – A Great Bar in Steamboat Springs Colorado

Sometimes the best bars are in unexpected places. Hazie’s at the top of the Gondola is a perfect example. It’s just a great, fun and slightly elegant restaurant and bar. Brian, the bartender, has been tending bar there for the past 8 years and has it all figured out. He does a great job of getting to know the patrons and he definitely makes everyone feel like a local.

Ski Home in Steamboat Springs – Just Steps From the Chairlift!

Ski Home in Steamboat Springs - Just Steps From the Chairlift

Location is everything in real estate; you can change the color of paint in a house but you can’t change the location of a chairlift. This Ski Home on Ski Trail Lane in Steamboat Springs is just steps away from the Christie chairlift.

From the beginning of the day to the end of the day, 2455 Ski Trail Lane provides the ultimate ease for people who love to play on a ski area. With just a one minute, 32 second walk to the chairlift, life couldn’t get any better.
Start your play-day by heading into the heated room attached to the 2 car garage to put on your boots. Then pull your gear from the secure ski storage area and stroll on over to the Christie chairlift.  One minute, 32 seconds is pretty handy. If you’re over 6’, maybe it will take you 1 minute 16 seconds? Again, location is everything.

The Chairlift is the New Google in Steamboat Springs

Chairlift Google can often be a better search engine than Google – for it’s more local.

Steamboat has a reputation for being a very friendly town and that friendliness pours over onto the ski slopes too. If you don’t know anyone in town, just ski by yourself one day and suddenly you’ll have 3 phone numbers and 2 new best friends. Well, that might be stretching it a little but if you make an effort, you can meet a lot of really interesting people when you ski by yourself.

Steamboat Ski Home with Functional Luxury

“Omigosh, Alpenglow Way is great!”  That’s the response I just get when people tour this home.

2660 Alpenglow Way is truly a home; it’s not just a vacation home.  The designer of Alpenglow had functionality and beauty in mind. I like homes that you can live in with a gaggle of people. Alpenglow Way has 5,277 square feet  and  5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms.  But the special part, that I think a lot of people can appreciate, is all the functional bonus rooms.

Of course, the kitchen is stellar with granite counter tops and professional grade appliances. There are numerous fireplaces and  flat screen tv’s, a 900 lb dining room table that really is a work of art, a hot tub, decks, and all that. Besides all these the luxurious basics, this home features  a game room, a reading room, and a “Wii  Room”.
