Splatz Canvas and Wine, Steamboat Springs, CO

There’s a new activity sweeping the country and Steamboat is being swept along with the tide! Check out Splatz Canvas and Wine.

Splatz Canvas and Wine is located at 1104 Lincoln Ave, 970-871-7904

If you haven’t heard of these painting studios being opened up across the county, you really should get with it. I didn’t say “you’ve been living under a rock” because that doesn’t seem very polite, but maybe you should get these studious on your radar. These are for men and women, children, artistic folks, totally unartistic folks, married couples, dating couples, friends, and YOU. They truly are for everyone. I think the picture below helps express how individual these studios can be!

You too can be creative!

You too can be creative!

Steamboat Springs’ very own Splatz Canvas and Wine studio is located downtown and post their schedule online. They also are available for private parties.

Spring Detours in Steamboat Springs

May day Aspen

May day Aspen Tree

Spring is in the air! With the changing of the seasons come some little life-detours for residents of Steamboat Springs. Here are a few of the unexpected detours:

One such change is navigating our bike paths! Walton Creek and the Yampa River run along the “Core Trail” which is our local bike and walking path that runs the length of Steamboat Springs. In the spring, the snow melts and our rivers get higher, and higher, and higher which cause some flooding on our trails. So, in the spring, you need to be prepared for a few detours:

Steamboat Rocks! The Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series (the Concert Series) will, as usual, be a lot of fun. The Concert Series was formed in 1990 and supports our community in lots of ways. Everyone is welcome to the free concerts set outside in the summer breeze. Now their venues change and most are located on Howelsen Hill Ski Area or Steamboat Springs Ski Area. Typically the concerts are attended by 80% locals and 20% visitors making it a great local event.

STOP – Just STOP! We Need to Save Our Bears

STOP - Just STOP! We Need to Save Our Bears

100 bears were killed in 2012 - up from 32 in 2011 in just three Colorado Counties.

We need to STOP and think and save our bears.

One interaction between a bear and a dumpster can mean a death sentence for that bear. Once a bear finds feed in your birdfeeder or tasty trash, he will learn to come back. It’s a little like finding out that wild raspberries taste good-they will keep looking for them to eat. And bear/human interactions are a losing battle for the bear. Colorado has a one-strike-you’re-out policy. If they can, the Parks and Wildlife department will tag and relocate the “problem” bear  but if it has another interaction with humans the bear will be killed. And  it will be your fault.

Steamboat Springs Plans for the Future

Steamboat Springs Plans for the Future

I am continually impressed with how the Steamboat Springs community plans for the future and  thinks long-term. I was reading the Steamboat Today this morning and saw that the City of Steamboat was evaluating what to do with the 1% lodging tax they collect.  Annually, this tax generates between $650,000 and $800,000. What was interesting to me was how progressive and well, just neat, that my neighbors have voted in this tax and attempt to use it wisely. The projects that are up for consideration are all projects that will greatly benefit our town. And these aren’t just infrastructure or boring things like that. These projects will directly benefit the locals and visitors alike for the long-term.

Four applicants made their presentations and four more are scheduled. The four that have already made their presentations were:

- Old Town Hot Springs

- Haymaker Golf Course

- Public Open Space Acquisition

Camp Robbers in Steamboat Springs, CO

Camp Robbers in Steamboat Springs, CO

No, not those kind of robbers, we just don’t have a lot of them here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I’m talking about Camp Robbers. The kind of Camp Robbers that you meet on the chairlift on Steamboat Springs Ski Area.

Camp Robbers – they are birds we know and love in the Rocky Mountains. They are a fearless and friendly bird that will come right into your camp and rob you of your food; hence the name, Camp Robbers. They are also known as Gray Jays or Perisoreus canadensis.

These omnivores eat seeds, berries, insects, small rodents, brownies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and french fries. They are quite busy in the summer caching their food by creating pellets using their sticky saliva to paste it into small crevices amongst the trees. They will eat these hidden meals during the winter months when brownies are not abundant.

Architectural Ideas for Natural Light

Architectural Ideas for Natural Light.

As a Realtor in Steamboat Springs, I see a lot of houses. Thankfully, there’s enough creative architects in this world to make my job really fun. The architecture in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is very mixed. But I can usually find some inspiration in almost every home I tour.

Most buyers of real estate buy a home that comes the closest to their needs at that particular time. Price, location, size and architecture all fall by way of chance. So again, I’m thankful for architects that put their creative touches on homes for people to buy and sell. I listed this home last fall. It sold in 3 days with multiple offer. Cool home + good marketing = happy clients.

Here’s some great ideas for taking advantage of natural light . . .which we get a lot of in Steamboat.

I’ve written other blogs on this ranch, and there are videos, and there is the MLS listing. So you can find out the technical information about this 35 acre ranch in numerous spots. But what I want to focus on today is the lifestyle it offers.

Homes have a personality and they offer a unique lifestyle. If you lived in downtown Denver, your home and daily life would be very different than on a Northwest Colorado Ranch. If you’ve always dreamed of living on a ranch, with wide open views and endless starry skies, and all you’ll hear throughout the day is the wind blowing the aspen leaves, then this home is for you.
