Steamboat Springs Middle School gets an A+

According to an article in the Steamboat Springs Today, “Steamboat Springs Middle School Shines in a New Report Card of Colorado Public Schools” by Scott Franz, we do shine!

As I have mentioned in previous blogs, Steamboat Springs community is a great place to raise kids.  And now, one of our Middle Schools has the ranking that proves it. The Colorado School Grades ranked Steamboat Springs Middle School an A+.

Currently there are two main organizations that grade schools in Colorado; the Colorado Department of Education’s Performance Framework and The Colorado School Grades. Both systems us the Colorado Department of Education’s School Performance Framework data but they evaluate and report the data slightly different. The Colorado School Grades translates the data into a user-friendly grade of A+ thru F, while the Colorado Department of Education ranks schools into just four categories: Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, and Turnaround.

More Reasons To Love 462 Grand Street, Steamboat Springs, Colorado

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog about a lovely little home in Old Town Steamboat Springs. I happen to think 462 Grand Street is pretty fantastic and I want to share with all of you a few more reasons why.

As you can see from some of the photographs on my website, as well as in this blog, this home is absolutely adorable.  With its original oak flooring and rooms full of warm, natural light, it just feels good to be here.  And, being located in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs in the desirable Old Town neighborhood doesn’t hurt either.  An endearing covered porch, delightful kitchen with breakfast bar and artistic arched doorways give this home its own unique brand of charm.

242 days on average, the sun shines in Steamboat Springs. Yes, more than Phoenix, Las Vegas,San Diego, and Los Angeles.

Those of us who live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado already know why it’s such an incredible place to live.  Our town is home to one of the world’s premier ski resorts, we have a healthy arts and culture scene, our Steamboat schools were recently rated among the best in Colorado for the third year in a row and we have an abundance of opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoyment.  With all of these great things, however, I think we tend to take for granted one of the greatest reasons to live here of all…the sunshine!

Some prefer the rain and the sense of peace and tranquility it brings, but if you are a lover of that great fiery orange orb in the sky, Steamboat Springs (and Colorado, generally) is the place for you.

Great Job, Steamboat!

Steamboat Springs School District Receives Highest Accreditation

For the third year in a row, the Steamboat Springs School District has received the ranking of “Accredited with Distinction”  from the Colorado Department of Education.

According to an article published this morning in the Steamboat TodaySteamboat Gets Top Marks, the Steamboat Springs School District will probably be one of only a small group of school districts to earn the title for 2011-2012 school year performance.  Only 18 of the 178 school districts in Colorado (Steamboat Springs was one of them) earned the “Accredited with Distinction” rating form the 2010-2011 school year.

Read my blog, Steamboat Springs’ Schools Among Best in Colorado for more about last year’s ratings.

The Colorado Department of Education’s ratings are based not only on student academic achievement, but on how well the school district prepares students for careers and post-secondary education.

Steamboat Springs High School Tier 2 Sports Teams in Jeopardy

Steamboat Springs High School Tier 2 Sports Teams in Jeopardy

Steamboat Springs is located in a beautiful valley far enough away from metropolitan areas that it’s safe to say no one moves here with any delusions of being able to make a quick trip to the mall, or Costco or Target for that matter. Every once in a while living in your corner of paradise can be a negative, and that seems to be the case with the Steamboat Springs High School athletic budget. As budget money everywhere is cut and/or re-allocated, the reality has hit Steamboat Springs High School that the cost of shuttling athletes across the state to compete might be too much to field many of the teams next year.

Steamboat Springs Schools Among Best In Colorado

Steamboat Springs’ High School is a 4 time winner and Steamboat Springs’ Middle School is now a 5 consecutive year winner of the John Irwin Schools of Excellence award for academic performance for the 2010-2011 school year. The Colorado Department of Education issued 150 schools this prestigious award which signifies that Steamboat Springs’ secondary schools met or exceeded the requirements established for last school year’s Colorado Student Assessment Program. High schools have an additional “college readiness” requirement that is based on attaining higher levels of graduation rates and ACT scores in order to receive the award.

Given that quality of schools ranks high in any family’s decision to relocate to a town or city, Steamboat’s solid and consistent history of academic excellence is a big advantage for anyone with school age children who has Steamboat Springs on their radar as a potential new community to call home. Among the factors it takes to create a highly accredited academic environment, community support and a staff dedicated to pushing excellence to the next level year after year are significant contributors to the excellence that’s been established in the Steamboat Springs’ school system.

Real Estate Agents Sell a Community, Not Just a Home

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

When someone tells you that a local real estate agent posted a great blog, you might be surprised that it’s not a blog on real estate market trends or simply straight listing information copied and pasted from a marketing brochure. Good real estate agents  realize that when people look for a home, they are looking for more than square footage, they are looking for a lifestyle to compliment their perfect home. From schools to shopping to annual, holiday and special events, a community is comprised of day to day opportunities that add to your overall quality of life and get you out of the home you and your realtor so carefully selected for you.
