Steamboat Springs, CO Real Estate Report

April has been a month with many facets.  Sun, snow, hail, and wind in no particular order. The ski area closed, the schools went on spring break, and many of the locals headed for warmer destinations to defrost. But every year the mud season gets a little shorter, at least visitor and event wise, even if not weather wise!

Steamboat Tops Another List – Best Small Town

Steamboat Tops Another List – Best Small Town

I’ve written before about Steamboat Springs topping lists of greatest ski areas and such. Like last summer Dog Fancy Magazine named Steamboat “Dog Town USA”, stating that our community is “a mile-high mecca for dogs and their owners, embracing a love of canines in daily life and activities year-round.” I must agree, we are dog people here in Ski Town USA.

Dogs love Steamboat, mud or snow.

Most recently, however, Smithsonian.com named Steamboat one of America’s 20 Best Small Towns to Visit. For this particular list, the Smithsonian was looking for places where at least per capita “cultural opportunities abound”. They highlighted the fact that Steamboat, in addition to our world-class black diamonds at Steamboat Ski Area, offers orchestral concerts and operas, a world-class music festival, free concert series, and great music year-round.

"I can't believe all the talent on that mountain," Lee Ann Womack tweeted of her January appearance at MusicFest in Steamboat Springs. (Photo by Todd Purifoy courtesy of Smithsonian.com)

Steamboat School’s Recognized as Best in the State

Once again the Steamboat Springs School District was honored by the Colorado Department of Education as one of the best school district’s in the state. The district was one of 16 awarded the “Accredited with Distinction” honor for overall performance.

I’ve blogged about it before but Steamboat has been recognized with this award since the Colorado Department of Education began labeling schools with it four years ago. To reach the “Accredited with Distinction” award, a school must earn 80% or more of available points based on academic achievement, academic growth, reducing academic growth gaps, and postsecondary and workforce readiness.

Three of Steamboat’s schools – the middle school, high school and Strawberry Park Elementary School – were given the John Irwin Award. This honor is bestowed upon schools that show sustained academic excellence.

Wish List for the Perfect Steamboat Home

If you are looking for a new home, you undoubtedly have a “wish list” of items and amenities that you would really like to have in your next home. Having such a list will assist your realtor in their search for homes to show you. Keep in mind though, that sometimes not all of the items on a wish list can be found in one home. With 695 Meadowbrook Circle, an unfulfilled wish list will not be the case. Or see all the active real estate in Steamboat Springs here.

When you think of Steamboat Springs, CO its acclaimed performing arts school may not be the first the thing that comes to mind. Well with our champagne powder laying ground for amazing outdoor winter sports and our abundant trails and waterways providing loads of summertime fun, it’s no wonder you missed the fact that we have a renowned performing arts school. In fact, its the nation’s oldest continuously-operating performing arts school and camp and it was started by two women 100 years ago. How is that for American entrepreneurial spirit?

Perry Mansfield

The Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp celebrated its 100th birthday this year. In its honor, Arts District, a collaboration between KUNC, Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO put together a nice story about this little school that is producing real talent.

Great Value in Steamboat Real Estate

As real estate values start to climb in Steamboat Springs, you can still find a great value in a single family home just outside of town. The Silver Spur area is just 3 miles west  of town and offers a great family orientated neighborhood with running trails, ski trails, and endless playgrounds surrounding the area. At $180 per square foot or $719,000, this home is a great value. With 5 bedroom and 4 baths, there’s plenty of room for large families. This ranch style home is almost 4,000 square feet and is always  filled with an abundance of natural light because  it’s always sunny in Steamboat…well. almost.  The living room is lovely,  with a warm and welcoming river rock fireplace that’s just perfect for curling up around on one of Steamboat’s many cold mountain winter nights.
