Steamboat Springs Named one of “The West’s Best Ski Towns”

According to Sunset magazine, Steamboat Springs, Colorado ranks as one of the best ski town in the West. We may not be the prettiest, that went to Telluride. And we might not have the most charm, that went to Crested Butte. And Steamboat didn’t outrank Jackson Hole for the best apres-ski, but we did receive the “Most Old West charm” award. Which in my mind is pretty darn good. I’d rather be charming than have the best food, which went to Bend, Oregon.

Charming is something that can’t happen over night. So congrats to Crested Butte for having charm as well. But charm is something rooted deep in the core of Steamboat Spring. I mean a town could always get better restaurants, or develop a better apres-ski experience. But to have the most Old-West charm, well that’s about as real as the cattle drive down main street, or the mammoth belt buckles at the weekly rodeo, or 4-H participants in the 4th of July parade. And that charm have been in Steamboat Springs for a long, long time. And that charm is what makes Routt county one of the best places to live and spend a vacation. Today, the day before Christmas, Steamboat is about as charming as can be. The lights of downtown all sparkling at night, the people walking up and own the sidewalks shopping and browsing, and the buzz of anticipation for the skiing is what makes Steamboat such a special place.

See a little of what I’m talking about in this video of what Steamboat has to offer during the summertime.
