Steamboat’s Nordic Trail Conditions from Comfort of Your Home

Finding out the current trail conditions for Steamboat Springs’ Nordic ski trails on Emerald Mountain just got easier! In fact, you can check them from the comfort of your home, or nearest computer or smartphone, with a new online interactive map developed by the City.

The map shows the status of the trails, if they have been groomed and when you click on the trail more information is provided such as length of trail. The Howelsen Hill Nordic Center relies on natural snow for its 13+ miles of trails.

The interactive trails map is an example of the City of Steamboat Springs working to get more maps online and accessible to the public. More maps, including city streets, bus routes, trail systems and more can be found on the City’s website.

For the first time, snow bikes will also be allowed on Nordic trails with a valid pass. Keep in mind that snow bikes are not allowed from 2-6 pm Monday – Friday due to conflict with ski training times.

Skate Skiing in Oak Creek

Just 25 minutes south of Steamboat Springs is the quaint historic community of Oak Creek. Thanks to a partnership between Oak Creek and Rossi Ranch and a grant from LiveWell Northwest Colorado, the public will be able to enjoy a groomed skate skiing loop free of charge.

The entire community benefits from such partnerships. The land used for the Nordic trail loop in the winter is a hay meadow for Rossi Ranch in the summer. It can be accessed at the gate at the end of Bell Avenue. A shed there houses donated gear for people to borrow if you want to give cross-country skiing a go but lack equipment. A grant from LiveWell Northwest Colorado paid for a groomer to tow behind a snowmobile.

We love our outdoor activities here so the fact that Steamboat Springs and neighboring communities are expanding trails and making it easier for us to access information is a good thing for all of us.
