Our small-town western community received quite a bit of attention recently when our local hospital, Yampa Valley Medical Center (YVMC), was showcased in a Consumer Reports article ranking it as the safest hospital in Colorado.  According to an article in Routt County’s daily newspaper, the Steamboat Today, hospitals around the country were ranked based on their rate of infection, re-admissions, complications and mortality, as well as how thorough the hospital’s staff was in explaining new medications to patients and preventing patients from undergoing tests which may have the potential of exposing them to unnecessary radiation.

YVMC gave credit to the hospital staff’s dedication, as well as its high expectations in attaining this impressive accomplishment.  YVMC’s score of 67 of 100 also put it just one point below the Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville, Ohio, which was designated by Consumer Reports as the 10th safest hospital in the nation.  While Steamboat Springs has been nationally recognized for years for the accomplishments of its elite athletes and its outstanding Champagne Powder™ snow, YVMC’s designation as the safest hospital in Colorado is a first and just one more reason to consider making Steamboat Springs your home.
