What’s Happening in Steamboat Springs?
Looking for things to do in Steamboat Springs this winter besides snowsports? Here’s what’s happening in town this month:
Dec. 8 & 9, The Nutcracker
Join Elevation Dance Studio for its winter production of The Nutcracker. This fun, family friendly performance will be sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Tickets are on sale now for each of the three performances being held at the Steamboat Springs High School. Click here for ticketing information.
Dec. 16, Christmas Storytime at the Tread of Pioneers Museum
Hear about pioneer and Victorian holiday stories and traditions and will create a special Victorian holiday craft to take home. While you’re here, see the museum’s holiday decorations and get some holiday shopping done in the Museum Store. This is a free event for all ages from 11AM – 4PM.
Dec. 17, Holiday Festival @ Gondola Square
Celebrate the holiday season Steamboat style! See Santa ride down the slopes on horseback and meet Santa at his workshop along with some of his favorite reindeer friends. There will also be a stocking scramble, cookie decorating, story time and a holiday concert, followed by a torchlight parade & fireworks. From 2-5:30PM
Dec. 28, Neil Berg’s Broadway Holiday
Strings Music Festival presents the number one touring Broadway concert in America, bringing Broadway’s finest stars and greatest songs together for an unforgettable holiday event. Direct from New York, five of Broadway’s brightest stars will take audiences on a journey through Broadway history with the music of Kander & Ebb, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and many more. Dec. 31, Torchlight Parade and Fireworks
The Steamboat Ski & Snowboard School treats tourists and locals to a spectacular on-snow parade down the mountain lit only by torches for this New Year’s Eve event. Start time is determined by sunset but estimated to be around 5:30PM. Fireworks follow parade. Visit Steamboat.com for updated start time.
Jan. 1, First Day Hikes @ Stagecoach State Park
Stagecoach State Park invites you to join them for a fresh air, fresh start to the New Year! There will be multiple hiking options including a kid friendly hike around Pinnacle Peak, to a longer scenic loop approximately 2 miles round trip. After the hike, stick around to enjoy the bonfire, hot cocoa, and cookies. Limited snowshoes will be available but please feel free to bring your own. Pets are welcome, but must be kept on a six-foot leash at all times. This is a free event starting at 10AM, all vehicles must have a valid park entry pass.
Ongoing Events: Yampatika hosts snowshoe tours on Fridays and Saturdays beginning mid December. This is a great way to get outside and learn about the area from a naturalist! Fridays tours are the uranium mine tour (Fish Creek Falls area) whilst Saturday’s tour is on Emerald Mountain. Contact Yampatika for tour information and bookings.
