Rock Climbing in Steamboat Springs
We’re outdoor junkies here in Steamboat. And rock climbing is just another adrenalin sport we can enjoy year-round here in Steamboat Springs. Thanks to Matt Tredway who is responsible for the indoor climbing wall in the Steamboat Springs Middle School, and Patrick Meyer, Owner of Rocky Mountain Ventures, the general public can climb indoors 3 times a week.
Here’s the scoop:
When -Monday / Wednesday / Friday 6:00-8:00 PM (fall / winter hours)
Where – Steamboat Springs Middle School
Cost – $5 to climb / $5 to rent harness and shoes (punch cards available)
No experience needed. Trublue Auto Belay systems are used. So no need for a belay person. You can climb alone.
All ages welcome.
The climbing is great. There are 4 Trublue auto belay devices. There are several routes but it’s not a huge climbing wall. Ratings are from about 5.5 – 5.11. There are many bolted holds but also a lot of natural holds to make things harder and even a few nice cracks to work. There’s not much lead climbing but there are 4 bolts to practice a lead climb. The rock feels and looks real and it’s never that crowded so you get plenty of climbing time.
It’s not like we have nothing to do here in Steamboat, but for climbing enthusiast, a great way to keep in shape and test your skills.
For more Steamboat climbing options call Patrick Meyer, at Rocky Mountain Ventures. He regularly has classes for all ages. 970-870-8440. He also has several outdoor climbing classes during the warmer months and even some ice climbing trips during the winter.
Climb on Steamboat.

Charlie
